How many packs of flooring do you need?

Add your chosen waste allowance to the floor area, divide by the coverage per pack, then round up to a whole pack. For 168 ft², 10% waste and 20 ft² per pack, the result is 10 packs. Flooring Quantity is a Tebami Pro tool.

Use coverage per pack, not board dimensions

Flooring is often sold in packs labelled with a total coverage area. Tebami’s Flooring Quantity calculator uses that coverage directly. Required area and coverage per pack must use the same square unit, such as ft² or m².

Measure the space first. Rectangle Area is Free for a simple rectangle; Room Area is a Pro option that can subtract an excluded area. For several separate spaces, total their areas before estimating packs.

Formula and worked example

Adjusted area = required area × (1 + waste percentage ÷ 100).
Packs to buy = round up(adjusted area ÷ coverage per pack).

A 12 ft × 14 ft room has an area of 168 ft².
168 × 1.10 = 184.8 ft² including a chosen 10% allowance.
184.8 ÷ 20 = 9.24 packs.
Round up: 10 packs, providing 200 ft².

The 15.2 ft² difference between purchased coverage and adjusted area is a consequence of whole-pack purchasing. It is not an additional automatically selected waste percentage.

Allowance and rounding limits

Ten percent is an example, not a universal recommendation. Follow the flooring supplier’s guidance for the product, room shape, installation pattern and usable offcuts. The calculator accepts a waste allowance from 0 to 100 percent; a blank allowance means zero.

The app rounds purchase quantities up using exact rational arithmetic. An exact whole-pack result does not need an extra pack. It does not model board placement, stagger, damaged pieces, cutting plans or matching batches. Check your measured area and the actual pack label before ordering.
